The Front Porch

Neighbors gather by The Front Porch during the Heights Line Inauguration Spring 2024

It all started when…

Our partners at BLDG Memphis had a crazy idea to build a mobile front porch for community events. When they no longer had adequate storage, we offered to host it in the Heights and we figured while it’s here, let’s put it to good use!

An attempt at creative placemaking, The Front Porch is intended to be a space for neighbors to gather, converse, and connect. As part of our holistic community development strategy, The Front Porch helps facilitate an inclusive environment where relationships flourish and community bonds grow.

From time to time the mobile porch travels for other events in our neighborhood or special events around the city. But when it’s not in use, it sits available on the Heights Line near National and Bowen ready for you to come, hang out, and meet a neighbor!

Have you enjoyed your time on The Front Porch? Let us know by posting on social media and tagging us! We dream of having other creative spaces along the Heights Line that like front porches, represent places of gathering and relational connection. If you have an idea for a future project, let us know by emailing us at info@heightscdc.org!
